The Council: 2017 – 2026

nybc

We have an important announcement to make. The NYBC will close operations as of November 2026. Our website and online resources will still remain active until August, 2027. We came to this decision after many conversations about not only the merits of our organization, but also the sustainability of our current membership. Our mission from the start has been to support youth leadership through bicycles. Since then, we have seen tremendous growth in the young people who we work with. Over the years, we have had youth council members develop their skills through participating in leadership events and regular convenings. We have also had the honor and joy of hosting the annual Youth Bike Summits to inspire more youth leaders. So many young people in communities across the nation have come together to learn and connect with each other through this event.

It is because of the tireless work from our partners and peers in the bicycling community that we feel ready to close our own organization. Our founder, Joshua F, started the NYBC in 2017 with a group of other passionate youth from Philadelphia and Seattle. It grew from being an online chat group to a 5013c nonprofit. Despite the challenges to in-person events during the global pandemic, we stayed committed to helping young people get on bicycles with our Spring Back On Bikes Campaign and Summer Chats programs. You can view our past impact reports here. In 2024, our partnership with Community Bike Works in Allentown, Pennsylvania, brought the Youth Bike Summit back stronger than ever. None of this would have been accomplished without the tireless support of our youth members, partners, and all the bicycling mentors who see a future generation of bicyclists worth uplifting.

We have active resources for communities interested in hosting their own regional Youth Bike Summits so please send us an email. We are happy to answer any questions that may arise from this announcement.

Thank you all for the support and effort you have put into the National Youth Bike Council. While the NYBC might be inactive, we are excited to see our council members and the many youth leaders continue to advocate for the cycling community
